Editing your route mid-ride

You asked, and we listened! You can now edit your route mid-ride from within the Beeline app.

Please note: This is only available for Android users on version 4.2.7910 (10% staged rollout) at the moment. It will come to iOS and the rest of Android users soon!

Whether you need to add a quick coffee stop, get some more fuel, or bail out early because the weather turned bad, Beeline makes it easy to change your plans without losing your current ride’s stats or having to end the ride to start anew!

How does it work?

Editing your route whilst on a ride offers you the ability to add/remove waypoints and/or change the destination. If you need to make a change, you need to safely pull over and follow the steps below.

The route will update immediately to reflect these changes, and you will be good to go!

How to edit route mid-ride:

⚠️ Safety First! Your safety is always our top priority. Please always pull over and come to a safe stop before opening your phone to edit your route.

  1. While on a ride, safely pull over and open the Beeline app on your phone.

  2. Press the ‘Options’ button at the bottom of the app’s navigation screen.

3. Select ‘Edit route

4. From here, you can add a waypoint, either by manually dropping a pin in the desired location or by editing the existing list and adding the address with the + button:

5. Once you have edited your route, you can also change your ride preference (fast/fun/relaxed or fast/quiet/balanced) if you want to.

Note: You must edit the route first before being able to switch between the route types. This is because a new route must be generated to trigger the new options

At this point, you are also able to change from Route mode (turn-by-turn mode) to Compass mode, too.

6. Once you have finished making the changes you would like to see on your ride, you can then press ‘Resume’ - this will resume your newly edited ride!

If you have decided you don’t need to edit the route, you can use the “X” in the top left corner to resume with your originally planned route.

Once you have finished your ride, you will be able to see the route ridden in your Beeline app under the ‘journeys’ tab at the bottom. The stats you are shown will also reflect the changes made during the ride.

Please note: Your phone will need to have an active data connection to make amendments to your active ride, as the app needs to calculate new road paths or look up addresses.

FAQs

Can I change my route preference (fast/fun/quiet, etc.) while on a ride?

Yes! You can absolutely switch between your route preferences mid-ride using the steps above to adapt to changing traffic or weather!

Note: You must edit the route first before being able to switch between the route types. This is because a new route must be generated to trigger the new options

Does this mean you are able to change from route mode to compass mode mid-ride?

Yes, this is also a possibility now while editing your route mid-ride!

Does it work on GPX files?:

No, you can't directly edit or move the points on an imported GPX file while your ride is actively running.

Why is that? GPX files are a set of routes imported into the Beeline app before use. Since Beeline did not build the route from scratch, our app treats it as a fixed, unchangeable path.
