Planning a ride

Planning a ride in the Beeline app

Updated today

Watch the video tutorial:

Please note: While this video does show our Moto II device, please know that the steps are universal towards all of our devices.

We’ve kept planning a ride in the Beeline app super simple. Enter your destination by either tapping the location on the map or using the search function in the ‘Where to?’ section at the bottom of the screen.

If it is a simple A to B type of day, that is it! From here, you can choose to ride the route given or blaze your own path with light guidance by choosing the Compass option.

For the longer days, you can also add stops along the way if there are any specific places that you would like to pass through on your ride. These are called waypoints.

To plan a ride in the app:

1 - Head to the Ride tab

2 - Choose “Plan ride”

3 - Set your destination by tapping it on the map or searching for it in the search bar at the bottom of the screen

4 - If you wish, you can add any stops you’d like to hit along the way - this is what we call a "waypoint". You can add waypoints by either tapping on the blue route line or by using the + icon indicated below to add “waypoints” along your journey. If you wish to move the waypoint, press and hold on the black tab at the bottom of the waypoint circle, as shown below and drag it to where you would like it to go:

5 - Once you’ve finished adding the necessary waypoints, have a look at which route is best for the ride you’re planning - the app will provide you Fast and Fun options (where applicable. For Fast and Fun coverage, please view the list here) as well as Compass Mode for the days you’re feeling more adventurous. For more information, please have a look at our support article on motorcycle riding options and Beeline Moto Fast and Fun here.

6 - To view more details about your ride, swipe up on the data tab at the bottom or tap ‘More Info.’ To return to the full-screen map, simply swipe the tab back down or select ‘Show Map.’ Continuing to swipe down will fully minimise the data and maximise your map view.

7 - Once you’ve chosen your route, you can either hit “Go” to start riding or use the “Options” menu to save your ride for later

8 - And you’re off! Happy Beelining 🏍️

Notes about zoom settings/text size

If you have adjusted your phone’s Zoom Level or Text Size (Accessibility settings) to be larger than the default, it may impact the Beeline app’s layout. Specifically:

  • Reduced Map Visibility: Large text can expand the "Ride Data" panels when planning in the app and potentially on the ride itself, causing them to cover a greater portion of the map.

  • Limited Planning Space: With less visible map area, it can become more difficult to drop pins, adjust routes, or see upcoming turns clearly.

  • Overlapping Buttons: In extreme cases, buttons or menus may overlap, making them harder to tap.

When planning a ride in the Beeline app, you are now able to remove some of the data on the app by dragging down the planning menu at the bottom, which may improve this.

If you would prefer to use a laptop or desktop when planning a ride, why not try our online route planner here?

More for your route planning considerations:

  • You can plan rides from old journeys ridden in the Beeline app by saving the route, then accessing it again from the "Ride" tab > "Saved routes." You can make any necessary adjustments there as well, so long as the ride did not begin as a recorded ride. You can learn more about saving and viewing old journeys here.

  • We’ve created a new route-planning tool. Simply tell us how far you’d like to go and whether or not it is a round-trip or one-way route, and we’ll do the rest! Learn more about the Beeline Plus auto-route generator here.

  • We have a Beta Online Route planner that may assist in your route planning. Learn more about that here.

  • Have a route from another routing provider that you’d like to ride with your Beeline? No hard feelings! You can use the GPX import function to ride it with your Beeline. Learn more about importing GPX routes here.

  • There is a limit of 100 waypoints for Smart Routed countries, while routes imported via GPX have no limitation.
