Part of having a great journey is knowing what you may encounter along the way. Speed camera alerts are certainly no exception and are highly requested from our motorcycle community. We’ve brought that function to Beeline Plus as such!
Plus users will now be able to view planned speed cameras along your journey within the Beeline app and benefit from alerts from the Moto II device when one is approaching on a ride.
Please note: This feature is currently live for Android users only. iOS will be released in the coming days!
Speed camera alert availability
Speed camera alert availability depends entirely on the legality of showing them within the country you are riding in.
Speed camera alerts are available in Beeline Plus regions, where legal. Nearly all Plus countries have speed camera availability; however, there are a few countries that have legal restrictions in place. France, Germany*, and Switzerland will not have speed camera alerts on the device or app as such.
You can see the list of countries included in the speed camera coverage list here. Data and coverage will vary by country.
*Germany allows speed cameras to be displayed on the map whilst planning a ride only. Speed camera icons will appear during ride planning within the Beeline app soon as such. They will no longer be available to view once the ride has begun and will not show on the device.
Speed camera data is not available in Japan because TomTom does not provide data.
Speed camera availability is based on the country you are currently riding in, not where you are based. I.e., if you are a German Plus user riding in Italy, you will still be able to use the speed camera feature while abroad.
Viewing speed camera alerts in the Beeline app
Speed camera alerts will appear along routes in the Beeline app as follows:
Start by planning* a ride to see where along your route you will encounter a speed camera. The icon will show you where the speed camera is located so you’re aware of areas to look out for at the start of every ride.
* Note: You cannot view speed camera alerts on recorded rides or GPX imported routes. This is due to the data being utilised in different routing modes.
Viewing speed camera alerts on Moto II devices
To access this feature, update your Moto II’s software version to 4.2.506.
Please note: This is being done in a phased rollout. If you don’t currently see a device update available in the app, it will come very soon!
Once you’ve updated your device, ensure you have enabled the alert settings required to get riding with speed camera alerts on your Moto II.
To use this feature, be sure you’ve enabled:
The “Alerts and sounds” setting within the Settings > Beeline device settings - this will allow the LEDs to alert you to the device
The “Audio instructions” or “Audio notifications” after starting a ride - this will allow the audio to alert you from the app / through your connected headset
You can enable/disable these based on your preference for how you’d like to be alerted.
You can learn more about enabling alerts and sounds in our dedicated article here.
3. Then, all you need to do is plan* and start a ride within the Beeline app.
You’ll be alerted to upcoming speed cameras whilst out on your ride in the following ways:
A speed camera icon will appear on the route line
Red LED flashes will warn you visually
An audio cue will come from the device or through your connected headset. This will be a different sound from the turn alert to keep these notifications separate.
* Note: You cannot view speed camera alerts on recorded rides or GPX imported routes. This is due to the mapping data being utilised in different routing modes.
Types of speed camera alerts shown
We show:
Fixed location speed cameras
The start (but not the end) of average speed check zones
The start (but not the end) of “speed enforcement zones” - ie areas where there are many cameras
We do not show:
Red light cameras
Bus lane cameras
Mobile speed cameras
Notes
Previously saved routes will have speed camera data. You will need to re-plan these routes to get speed camera alerts on those rides.
User Responsibility: Users are ultimately responsible for adhering to local laws and regulations when using the Speed Camera alerts. Beeline strongly recommends that users exercise caution, ride within their limits, and prioritise safety at all times. Always prioritise safety, and when unsure, do not take risks. Please be aware of locally posted speed limits and do not exceed them if the Beeline is telling you differently.
Speed camera alerts are not available on original Moto devices. We apologise for this! If you are a Beeline Plus user, you will still be able to see these within the Beeline app.
