Troubleshooting for your device Stuck in "Update Mode"

This article covers the troubleshooting steps needed to ensure your device completes the update needed.

Updated this week

What is happening:

If your Beeline device displays a cloud icon or the message "updating, please wait," it means your device is in Update Mode. This can happen if an update is still in progress or if a previous update failed and the device is trying to recover.

First Things First:

  • Make sure the device is charged or plugged in and charging

  • Remove pairing from the phone

    • In the Beeline App, go to Settings -> Unpair this Beeline. If it says "Connect a Beeline device", then you are good to go.

    • Forget / Unpair / Remove the device from the phone's Bluetooth settings

  • Decide which of the following states your device is in:

Your Beeline device could be in one of the following 4 states:

A. Device in Update Mode

The cloud icon indicates that the device is ready to receive an update.

  1. From the Beeline App on your phone, select "Connect to Beeline Device". It should come up as "Update Mode".

  2. Select the device that is in Update Mode and let the app update it. Best to have your phone right next to the device and not interrupt the update.

  3. Your device should reboot into "Unpaired State".

  4. Pair your phone to the Beeline as usual by selecting "Connect to Beeline Device" again.

B. Device is showing an Error

If your device is showing something similar to the above, and it doesn't fix itself after a few minutes, follow these steps to update it:

  1. Hold the Power Button (Down on Velo 2) for ~2 minutes or until the device restarts and keep holding it. On restart, it should go into the "Update Mode".

  2. Once it shows the cloud, you can let go of the button and update it from the App. See above in the "Update Mode" section on how to do this.

C. Beeline in "Unpaired State"

The "beeline.co/app" text and QR code indicate that the device is ready to be paired. You should be able to pair to it from the Beeline App, and if the phone is connected to the internet and a new version is available, it will automatically update the device. You can find more information on how to pair in the pairing articles (iPhone) (Android). Also, be sure to try turning your device on and off prior to pairing if issues still persist.

D. Beeline paired but not connected

The yellow "pill" and phone icon on the right-hand image indicates a device that is connected, while the lack of the phone icon on the left shows a device that is not connected. If for some reason your device can no longer connect to your phone, you should unpair and re-pair it. You can do that from Options -> Unpair.

Once it is unpaired, you can continue from the "Unpaired State" above.

What to do if your device is stuck on an update?

If you see a cloud or a message saying "updating, please wait" on your device, it means that your device is in "Update Mode". It might still be updating, or an update might have failed and it's waiting for the phone to recover it.

Below are the instructions to recover it. We also have a video that can guide you through the steps, so you can follow it along - https://youtu.be/PptHH4Y9R00

Here are the steps to recover your device:

1. Make sure your device is charged or on charge.

2. Open the Beeline App on your phone and remove the pairing information if it's still paired.

3. Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and remove/forget the pairing information there as well.

4. Connect to the device, and you should see something like "(Update Mode)".

5. Wait for the update to finish.

6. Unpair from the device if it's still paired.

7. Finally, repair the device to your phone.

This should have you Beelining again in no time; however, if you continue to have issues, please do get in touch with us here.
