Planning your next journey should be as smooth as the ride itself. While you're plotting your path in the Beeline app, you might see a few icons pop up on the map. Here is a quick guide to what they mean so you can choose the best way forward.
City streets or country hills—understanding the route icons within the Beeline app helps you stay focused on the ride. This guide decodes the map symbols so you can plan fast and ride with confidence. Happy Beelining!
The Map Legend
Exclamation Mark (!): This indicates a negatively rated road. These are sections that other riders have flagged as less than ideal, so you might want to find an alternative path.
The orange exclamation mark will also be shown with an orange highlighted section of the path. You may notice that some of the route is also highlighted green - this indicates roads that have been positively rated by Beeline users.
You can see this shown in the app and on our online route planner!
The Beeline app:
Our online route planner (beta):
Ferry: No surprises here—there is a ferry crossing on this route. Be sure to check the local ferry schedules before you set off, or use the “Avoid ferries” route option if you’d like to avoid them altogether!
Dollar Sign ($): This highlights a toll road on your journey.
Mountain (Cycling only): This marks a hill on your route, giving you a heads-up when some extra legwork is required. The mountain icon will show in different colours; this reflects the difficulty level of the hill.
Yellow is a moderate hill.
Red is a more challenging hill

Please note: This is not yet available on our Beta Online Route Planner.
Camera (Motorcycle only, Beeline Plus subscription needed): This indicates a speed camera is ahead, to help you stay aware of your surroundings. If you are interested in this for your rides in the future, please have a look at some of our support articles on Beeline Plus here.
Note: If you have planned a longer route, the icons will look like dots when looking at the route overview. To get a better idea of what is to be expected on the route, zoom in a little for the icons to become clear.
Happy Beelining! 🤙
