Does your Beeline's ride navigation get a bit disrupted? Maybe the arrow seems to be jumping around incorrectly, giving misleading directions. Perhaps you are experiencing a bit of a lag on the device?
There's a good chance there are some app-optimising settings that are throwing off your GPS connectivity a bit! The following should get you back on the right path!
What's the issue? Android phones, like the popular Samsung Galaxy and Huawei P10 models, amongst many others, have a battery saver mode that can reduce GPS accuracy and then cause issues for navigating with a Beeline device.
For starters, ensure your Beeline app's location permission is set to "Allow only while using the app" or something similar. This will allow the app to run even when you lock or close your phone, as our app uses a foreground service, which allows the app to get location updates while the app is in the background. Often, this service gets killed if your battery-saving settings are too harsh.
From here, please check your phone's power saving settings. Most power-saving settings on Android restrict the Beeline app from functioning properly. Most phones will show an indication that this is enabled in the top status bar. Look out for these icons:
Battery with 3 arrows: This icon means your phone is actively restricting background activity and data syncing to conserve power. This will prevent the Beeline app from running smoothly in the background while you ride.
Battery with a leaf: This indicates your phone is in a low-power/eco mode to extend battery life. It limits performance and background tasks, which will likely disrupt your GPS connection and navigation.
.
You will need to disable this to have accurate tracking from the Beeline app and device.
How to turn it off (System-Wide)
If you want to remove these icons and return your phone to normal operation, you can usually find the toggle in two places:
Quick Settings: Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to open the full Quick Settings panel. Look for an icon labelled "Data Saver" or "Power Saving" and tap it to turn it off.
Settings Menu:
For Data Saver: Go to Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver.
For Power Saving: Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Power saving.
Step 2: Unrestrict the Beeline App
Even if your main battery saver is turned off, some phones aggressively restrict individual apps in the background. To ensure Beeline always has permission to navigate, follow the steps for your specific phone below:
How to fix this issue for Samsung phones:
For newer Samsung devices (Android 12 / One UI 4 and above):
Go to Settings on your phone.
Tap Apps.
Find and select Beeline from the list.
Tap Battery.
Select Unrestricted.
For older Samsung devices:
Go to Settings on your phone.
Tap Apps.
Tap the three dots (menu) in the top right corner and select Special access.
Tap Optimise battery usage.
Change the dropdown filter at the top to All.
Find Beeline in the list and turn the toggle off (so it is not optimised).
How to fix this issue for other Android phones:
Go to Settings on your Android device
Tap for Device Care or Battery
Tap Battery Optimisation
From the list of apps, search for Beeline
Select Don't Optimise
This should allow background activity for Beeline. Of course, because Android menus can vary, if your screen looks a bit different from the steps above, a quick online search for your specific phone model will point you in the right direction!
