To install your Powered mount insert:
Before you proceed, please ensure your bike’s engine is off before installing your Powered mount insert.
1 - Remove the mount insert from the mount you are installing the Powered Mount Insert to. For ease of installation, install your mount before installing the powered mount insert within. For guides on how to install your mounts, please find the appropriate articles here for your mount type.
2 - Place the Powered Mount Insert into the mount cavity and use the appropriate screw length provided with the Powered Mount Insert* to secure the insert into place. Be mindful here that you have run the cable directly out the top or bottom of the mount:
* The screw to use in this case will be dependent on the mount you are installing the Powered mount insert within. Use the 22mm for the Mirror / Crossbar mount, use 18mm for others.
3 - Access your bike’s battery. These can be found in different locations depending on your bike. If you’re not sure how to access your bike’s battery, we’d recommend checking your use manual or online guides for your specific bike type.
Note: you might already have an SAE wiring harness installed on your bike. If so, you can skip to step 8. You can use this with the Powered Mount Insert, but ensure that you install the 1 amp fuse from the provided battery connection cable into the harness that's already installed to prevent any damage during usage.
4 - Locate the battery terminals and remove the pre-existing bolts:
5 - Connect the ring terminals to the battery terminals, with the red ring terminal going to the positive contact, and the black to negative.
6 - Reattach the terminal bolts to secure the terminals in place.
7 - You’re nearly there! Now you’ll need to organise your run as neatly as possible, before connecting the connector from the battery cable to the Powered Mount Insert connector. How you choose to do this will depend on your preference and your bike’s set-up. Allow clearance for steering and lever control. Ensure powered insert cable is not under tension or preventing correct bike operation.
On some bikes, you might prefer to lift your bike’s tank and hide the cable there, on others you may prefer to run it along the side panel and tuck it in there. Utilise the included zip ties to keep the cable secure. If using zip ties, attach loosely before turning handlebars fully left and right, then tighten. Allowing some slack prevents cable getting caught or pulled when bike is in motion.
8 - Plug the battery and Powered Mount Insert cable connectors into each other. Ensure the connectors are fully pushed together.
9 - Your mount is ready for your Moto II! Attach the device and make sure that it’s receiving charge.
10 - Place your seat back in place if it was removed for the battery connection and hit the road! 😀
Notes:
The Moto II draws power at 5.4v, 0.5A max
The PMI converts the 12V from the bike battery down to 5.4V in order to power the Moto II. Using 12V directly will damage the Moto II
Auto Power Switching
Powered mount insert automatically switches on when device is attached. Device will trickle charge even with bike ignition off.
Remove device to switch charger off. If leaving bike for an extended period, disconnecting SAE connector is recommended.
